Couples Counseling in Dallas for Partners Who Want to Reconnect
If you and your partner keep having the same fight, or you've drifted into two people living separate lives, you're in the right place. I'm Andy Sibley, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Dallas. Couples counseling here is about getting you back to talking, trusting, and actually hearing each other again.
LMFT & LPC, licensed in Texas & Louisiana. 20+ years of experience. Accepting new couples.
Does this sound like your relationship?
Maybe every small thing turns into an argument. Maybe you've stopped arguing at all, and that scares you more. Some couples come in after an affair and don't know if they can trust again. Others are fine on paper but feel like roommates.
You talk, but it doesn't land. One of you shuts down. The other pushes harder. Then you both feel alone in the same house.
None of that means your relationship is broken. It usually means you're stuck in a pattern, and patterns can change with the right help.
How I help couples in Dallas
I don't take sides. My job is to help the two of you understand what keeps happening and to give you tools you can use the same week.
- Communication that works. We slow down the fights and find what's underneath them. You learn to say the hard thing without it blowing up.
- Rebuilding trust after infidelity. If an affair brought you here, we move at a pace you can handle. Some couples repair. Some part with less damage. You choose.
- Getting close again. We work on the emotional distance, the resentment, and the small habits that pulled you apart.
- Premarital counseling. If you're engaged, we cover money, family, conflict, and expectations before they become surprises.
- Discernment counseling. If one of you is unsure whether to stay, we take that seriously and help you decide with clarity instead of pressure.
What makes my approach different
Most couples therapists in Dallas hold a single license. I hold two: LMFT and LPC. The marriage and family training means I'm built for the space between two people, not just what's going on inside one head. Relationships are my lead specialty, not a sideline.
I've done this work for more than 20 years, licensed in both Texas and Louisiana, with a background teaching psychology at Louisiana Tech University. You get someone who has sat with a lot of couples in a lot of hard moments and knows it can get better.
What to expect
- Reach out. Call (214) 227-6651 or send the appointment request form. Tell me a little about what's going on. It takes a few minutes.
- First session. We meet, all three of us. You each share your side and what you want to change. No homework, no taking sides.
- We find the pattern. Over the next sessions we map what keeps happening between you and start shifting it. You'll have tools to try at home.
- We check in. We keep asking whether the work is helping. This is your relationship, and you set the direction.
Fees and insurance
Couples sessions are $250 for 50 minutes, or $300 for an extended 80-minute session. I accept Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Optum, UMR, and United Healthcare. Coverage varies by plan, so it's worth calling the number on your card to confirm your benefits. If that feels like a hassle, reach out and I'll help you sort it out. My office is in East Dallas near Uptown and Knox-Henderson, right on Central Expressway. If you're looking for a therapist close by, read about my Uptown Dallas practice.
Questions couples ask
How much does couples counseling cost in Dallas?
A 50-minute couples session with me is $250 self-pay. Extended 80-minute sessions are $300, which some couples prefer when there's a lot to work through. I accept Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Optum, UMR, and United Healthcare, so your out-of-pocket cost may be lower with insurance.
What is the success rate of couples counseling?
It depends on the couple and how early you come in. In my experience, many couples report real improvement, and the biggest factor is both partners being willing to show up and try. I won't promise an outcome. What I can tell you is that couples who start sooner, before resentment sets in, tend to have an easier road.
Does couples counseling work after infidelity?
It can. Rebuilding trust after an affair is slow and honest work, and both people have to want it. We move at a pace you can handle. Some couples come out stronger with a clearer relationship, and some use the process to separate with less damage. Either way you get support, not judgment.
What is the 5-5-5 rule for couples?
It's a simple way to slow down a fight. You each take five minutes to say how you feel, five minutes to hear your partner without interrupting, then five minutes to talk it through together. It's not therapy on its own, but it's the kind of practical tool we build so you can calm things down at home.
Do we need to be married for couples counseling?
No. I work with dating couples, engaged couples, long-term partners, and married couples. Premarital counseling is a good fit if you want to head into marriage on solid ground. You don't need a crisis to come in. Plenty of couples just want to communicate better.
Do you offer online couples therapy in Texas?
Yes. I see couples in person at my Dallas office and online by secure video anywhere in Texas. Video works well when schedules clash or one partner travels. Many couples do a mix of both.
What happens in the first couples session?
Mostly we talk. You each tell me what brought you in and what you'd like to be different. I'll ask about your history as a couple and where things get stuck. By the end we'll have a shared sense of where to start. You don't need to prepare or agree on everything first.
Ready to talk?
You can ask questions first. There's no pressure and no commitment. If you're both willing to try, that's usually enough to start.
